Email Tutorial - Setting up spam filtering
in Outlook 2003
<return
to overview>
NOTE:
You can successfully combine our default spam filtering
and Outlook's spam filtering! Our default spam filtering
flags suspected spam by adding ***** SPAM ***** in the
subject line. If you are using Outlook
to download your email from the server, you can set
rules in Outlook that automatically puts these "tagged"
emails to your Outlook Junk E-Mail folder. To learn
how to do that, go <here>
NOTE:
Outlook’s junk/spam filter does NOT
protect you against viruses embedded in spam email!!!!
Make sure you have up-to-date virus protection
software on every PC! We take absolutely NO responsibility
or liability for viruses transmitted via our server.
1 – In Outlook
2003, go to Tools and click
on Options… at the bottom of
the drop-down menu.
2 – Under the Preferences
tab, click on the Junk E-mail button.

3 – We recommend setting the level
of protection to High: Most junk e-mail is caught,
but some regular mail may be caught as well. Check your
Junk E-mail folder often. This will filter
out most spam email.
NOTE: If
you select to permantly delete junk-email, the email
is deleted and gone off both our server and your Outlook
and cannot be retrieved. Use
this option with caution!
4 – Check your Junk E-mail folder
often and if Outlook puts a “safe” email
sender into the junk folder, right-click on the email,
move your mouse down to Add sender to Safe Senders
list and future emails from this sender will
go to your regular Outlook inbox.
5 – If Outlook puts a spam into
your inbox, right-click on it and move your mouse down
to Add Sender to Blocked Senders list
and future emails from this sender will automatically
be identified as spam and be put into the Junk E-mail
folder.
6 – After checking your Junk E-mail
folder, right-click and select Empty Junk E-Mail
folder to permanently delete the spam emails.
NOTE:
Again, Outlook’s junk/spam filter does NOT
protect you against viruses embedded in spam email!!!!
Make sure you have up-to-date virus protection
software on every PC!
